Spring has managed to creep up on us with a blink of an eye lid! However not only is the spring season a time for celebrating new life, blossoming flowers and chocolate eggs, but spring unfortunately is also known as “allergy season”.
Allergy season really can depend on where you live and what you are allergic to. In Autumn, weeds tend to cause allergies, particularly ragweed.
However, in spring, the main allergy culprit is tree pollen which can start as early as February and tends to last through the summer months where grass in particular causes pollen allergies.
A word about pollen
Pollen is a very fine powder commonly found in trees, plants, flowers, weeds and grass and which is carried by the wind or birds to fertilize plants.
Those who inhale pollen but suffer from an allergy to this substance will find that they receive a variety of symptoms including sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, an itchy feeling in the throat, itchy eyes, coughing, wheezing and trouble breathing.
Not everyone is necessarily allergic to the same type of pollen. For example, some people may only be allergic to the pollen found in beech trees or certain types of grass.
