How to make your bed
Making your bed each morning can be a small, yet significant routine that sets the tone for the day ahead. It’s a simple act of self–care and discipline that can instil a sense of order and calm in your personal space.
By smoothing out the sheets and arranging the pillows, you’re not only tidying the physical space but also clearing mental clutter, giving you a clearer headspace to start your day. It’s also about maintaining a pleasant and inviting bedroom environment; a made bed is visually appealing and can make the entire room look more organised.
Additionally, it’s a way to signal to yourself that sleep time is over and it’s time to transition into the activities of the day. At night, returning to a made bed can be a welcome comfort, a signal that it’s time to relax and unwind, providing a psychological end to your day.

Pillow plumping hacks
Plump up your pillows daily for optimal comfort and performance and enjoy that fluffy feeling for longer. Here are 3 ways to plump your pillows to ensure they are perfect every time.
Push and pull
Place your hands on either side and gently push and pull in and out, then give them a shake to let the air flow through the fibres.
Give them a squeeze
Hold the pillow at the top and the bottom. Move your hands down towards the centre of the pillow quickly squeeze, let go, and catch the pillow.
Flip it
Hold your pillow lengthways at one end and then flip it over 180 degrees in a fast motion. Turn the pillow round and repeat on the other side, this will help get the fibres moving inside the pillow.
Hacks on how to make your bed quicker
Putting on your duvet cover can be a drag! This can put you off from wanting to make your bed and wash your sheets. Here’s a step-by-step explanation of an easy time-efficient hack:
- Turn your duvet cover inside out and lay it flat on the bed, with the opening at the foot of the bed.
- Place your duvet on top of the inside-out cover, making sure the corners are aligned.
- Reach inside the duvet cover to the far corners and grab the corresponding corners of the duvet itself.
- Holding on to these corners, lift and give the duvet cover a good shake. The cover should start to envelop the duvet as you do this.
- Once the duvet is inside the cover, lay it back down and straighten everything out, ensuring there are no lumps and that the edges are aligned.
- Fasten the bottom of the duvet cover, whether its with buttons, ties, or a zipper.
- Repeat for the pillowcases.
You should now have a fully made bed in half the time. Or if you are really not someone that enjoys changing sheets to cut this out completely you can try our Silentnight Coverless Duvet, which includes a duvet with a sewn on printed cover. You can wash this duvet just like it is, so making your bed is a hassle-free dream.
Switch up your bedding throughout the seasons
Why is it important to change your bedding for each season? Switching up your bedding each season is all about temperature control. Each season brings different temperatures and weather so it’s all about making your room match this. It’s also just a fun way to freshen up your rooms look, so switch it up!
In the warmer months, try switching up your duvet tog to something lighter. Togs are a standardised means of defining the warmth of a duvet. A higher tog the warmer the duvet will be, and a lower tog means the duvet will be lighter and not as warm which is perfect for the warmer months.
Summer bedding
When thinking of bedding for the summer, think light and breezy! Go for cotton, polycotton or microfibre sheets that are breathable and help wick away moisture, keeping you cool.
Ditch the heavy duvet for a lower tog. we recommend a 4.5 tog duvet or a 7.5 tog duvet, this is because they are light and perfect for summer, a higher tog will be too thick and make you too warm. If a heatwave is on the cards this summer try our 2.5 tog duvet. This is our lightest ever duvet and means you can’t get too hot from your bedding but still have the comfort of the duvet. Alternatively, a lightweight cooling blanket will cool you down when it’s too hot to sleep.
When looking for bed coverings for summer consider our Silentnight Cooler Summer Duvet available in a 4.5 tog and a 7.5 tog. Spring is all about renewal and freshness, so when it comes to your bedding, think about embracing that springtime feeling.
Opt for lighter materials like cotton that allow your skin to breathe. As the nights get a bit warmer, summer bedding sets can also work for spring. As the weather is always a hit or miss in spring you may want to layer with a light blanket that you can easily push aside if you get too warm.
Since spring is where allergies are most likely to flare up, with all the pollen and freshly cut grass, we have a range of anti-allergy products. Including pillows, duvets, mattress toppers and more.

Then, consider adding a thicker duvet to keep you snug as the nights get cooler. We recommend the Silentnight Deep Sleep Duvet available in a 10.5 tog and a 13.5 tog.
In terms of colour and design, autumn is the perfect opportunity to introduce rich, earthy tones like deep reds, oranges, and browns, or even patterns with a seasonal motif. These choices can make your bedroom feel like a cosy retreat that mirrors the warmth of autumn’s palette.

How often should you wash your bedsheets?
Regularly washing your bedding is essential for maintaining hygiene and a healthy sleep environment, as bedding collects dead skin cells, dust mites, and bodily oils that can harbour bacteria and cause skin irritation. Especially your summer bed covers.
Over time, these can multiply, leading to allergies or worsening conditions like asthma. A clean bed also promotes better sleep by creating a fresher, more inviting atmosphere.
If you wear pyjamas or bathe before bed, change your sheets every two to four weeks. However, if you eat in bed, sleep with pets, or sweat heavily, wash your sheets at least once a week.
Good news most of our bedding is machine washable, making maintenance easy. Take a look at our blog how to wash your duvet for some all-important tips on how to wash your duvet whatever the season.
