Pet Beds: Our Pawfect Sleep Guide

You love your dog and you want the best for him or her, including plenty of rest and relaxation. But despite your best efforts, doggy beds can sometimes be an afterthought – or worse, a source of anxiety.

To help you get the most out of your dog’s sleep experience (and life in general), we’ve put together this guide for pet owners who want their pups to rest easy at night.

Find the pawfect pet bedding

How much do you really know about your pup’s sleeping habits? Dogs sleep in a variety of positions and for different amounts of time per day depending on their age, health, and other factors. It can be tricky to know where to start when it comes to finding the pawfect pet bedding.

In general, dogs tend to rest more during the day than at night – it seems like they are always ready for a nap! This isn’t surprising when you consider that they’re awake 24/7 while we humans get eight hours (or so) each night.

Most of us expect our dogs to snooze through most of their waking hours. This is true for most young pups who enjoy plenty of energy throughout the day. But what about older animals?

It turns out that even senior pooches still require sleep but may need less time than when they were younger. This is because their bodies aren’t able to process food as efficiently anymore (and therefore don’t need as much energy!).

Some breeds require less exercise due to their size or personality. For example, a Great Dane will require much more exercise than a Chihuahua.

However, it’s important to note that all dogs still require at least some amount of exercise each day. This doesn’t mean they need to run around for hours on end but simply that they should be taken out for walks or playtime in the backyard during the day.

Why do dogs sleep on their backs?

There is a reason why dogs sleep on their backs. It is comfortable and makes them feel safe and cosy.

When dogs are young puppies and haven’t learned how to walk yet, they will lie on their backs as a way of keeping themselves warm when they sleep. Once they grow up and learn how to walk, this isn’t necessary anymore. Instead they will lie down wherever feels most comfortable for them!

This is because dogs have different sleeping patterns from humans. They will often go through a sleep cycle that lasts about an hour, during which time they’ll move from being asleep to awake and back again multiple times.

This can happen several times during the night, so we need to be aware of our dog’s sleeping patterns. We don’t need to worry if we see them lying on their back.

How long does a dog sleep at night?

While it’s not exactly clear how much time dogs spend sleeping, there are some estimates.

The average adult dog sleeps between 8-12 hours a day. This is more than humans at around 7-8 hours, cats at about 16 hours, rabbits at 10 hours, hamsters at 7 hours and guinea pigs needing only 4 hours or less.

What is the best pet bed for my dog?

Choosing a quality dog bed is essential for a healthy dog. Your best friend deserves to have a comfortable place to sleep. When it comes to picking the pawfect pet bed for your dog, there are a few things to keep in mind.

Soft, comfortable and cosy

Your dog’s bed should be soft enough to provide adequate support without being too hard. This will help prevent any back pain or sore joints from developing over time. It’s also important to consider whether or not your furry friend prefers sleeping on a flat surface or something with more height (like a pillow).

Think like goldilocks

Make sure the bed isn’t too warm or cold. We would recommend picking a bed that is made of breathable material that can be easily washed (and dried).

Dogs are naturally warm-blooded animals and tend to sleep more soundly when they’re snuggled up in their beds at night. If their pet bedding becomes damp from excess sweat or urine then they’ll be less inclined towards using it again in future. This could lead them back into bad habits like sleeping on your floor!

Size matters!

Check that their new sleeping spot fits and it isn’t too small or large for them. Your pup should be able to stretch out comfortably when lying down on top of his/her chosen resting spot.

If not, then there’s no way they will enjoy spending time there during those precious moments between waking up early in the morning until going back out again later at night. Let’s face it, nobody likes getting cramped up into tight spaces where movement becomes difficult.

Easy cleaning? Yes, please!

We know how much our dogs love getting dirty but, sometimes those muddy paws can get everywhere especially when we’re not looking! Our Silentnight pet beds are all machine washable and easy to care for.

Where should my dog sleep at night?

You should provide your dog with a bed that is warm, quiet and safe.

Dogs need to be able to get comfortable in their beds. Beds are often used as places where they can scratch or chew on things that interest them. Make sure there aren’t any items in the area that could be dangerous like electrical cords.

Dogs shouldn’t be allowed onto furniture unless it’s obvious that it is okay for them to sit on these surfaces at all.
