How To Stay Cool In Bed During Summer

The hot, humid weather that can sometimes occur in the UK makes it really hard to sleep properly. Together with busy schedules, stressful jobs and being out late socialising, we all find it difficult to sleep when it’s too warm. Luckily, Sleepy People are on hand to offer some hacks for sleeping in warm weather. We want to make sure your bedroom is a calming, relaxing environment that encourages quality sleep so you can stay cool in bed during hot weather in the summer.

So, whether you feel like you’re suffering from summer insomnia, or you simply just want to make sure you’re not waking up hot in the night, let us offer some advice. After all, simply opening the window doesn’t always cut it.

Make sure your bedroom is comfortable

Often the temperature of your bedroom makes it impossible to fall asleep, or if you do drift off then we can bet you wake up through the night. Tossing and turning is very common in the warmer months, so making sure your bedroom is the right environment to encourage sleep can be helpful.
Most people find that their room temperature should be around 20°C for a comfortable sleep. Have your windows open through the evening to cool your bedroom down, and even close your blinds and curtains. If it’s still too warm in your room when it comes to bed time, consider having a cool shower.

Go to bed at a similar time

The summer months are often incredibly sociable, which can mess with your routine when it comes to sleep. Keeping your bed time the same, or similar, every night can make sure your body has a proper routine. Having a rhythm of this sort can mean you find it easier to fall asleep and wake up in the morning.
You should try to do this through the week and at weekends; although it can sometimes be difficult to stick to it!

Buy the right bedding

You probably kick your duvet off in the night when you get too hot, but by buying the right bedding for summer you can make sure you’re as comfortable as possible. You can invest in summer bedding that you can use year after year, making sure your bedroom is comfortable and induces sleep much easier.

Silentnight Cooler Summer Duvet

Having a summer duvet can also make it easier for you to get a good night’s sleep. A duvet with a tog rating of around 4.5 is best, like the Silentnight Cooler Summer Duvet. This is made using a hollowfibre filling that gives the duvet lightweight and breathable properties. Keeping your bedding fresh, it lets heat escape to keep you cool and it’s machine washable too.
